Public Service Committee Assists YWCA’s Newest Program

The South Dakota Advertising Federation teamed up with YWCA Sioux Falls on a project that’s helping to educate and inspire young women. SDAF’s Public Service Committee worked with the YWCA to promote and produce materials for the YWCA Women’s Leadership Program.
“We felt like the program was one that our members really wanted to help and see succeed. It was really important that our member volunteers were working on a project they cared about and believed in,” says Abby Bischoff, chair of the SDAF Public Service Committee.
The look of the materials came together through collaboration. SDAF volunteers started by creating a brand through custom illustrations and copy. The YWCA team asked for a tree to represent a woman, yet the design needed to be versatile enough to use on everything from a brochure to an award. To match the design, Copywriter Clara Jacob landed on the tag line “rooted in legacy.”
“Once they suggested the image of a tree, I had one in mind to draw. I wanted to created something hand-drawn that’s original and could stand alone,” says Cami Lovely, committee member and graphic designer. “We wanted an image that appeared down to earth. It represents the women in the program who are grounded and ‘rooted in legacy’ of the women who came before them.”
After the brand was approved, committee volunteers donated their time to produce several campaign pieces; the YWCA paid the hard costs. SDAF committee member Jolene Loetscher helped coordinate the program announcement and press conference. “We received tremendous press coverage with the announcement and hope to see a huge response to the application program,” Abby says. The program is open to women of all ages who are interested in progressing to the next level of leadership. If you’d like to participate in the program, contact Erin Bosch at the YWCA at 336-3660 or ebosch@ywca.sf.org.
